Heaven Is Not A Reward, It Is a FREE Gift

Heaven Is Not A Reward, It Is a FREE Gift

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Romans 6:23

Romans Catholicism and every other worldly religion teaches that grace is earned by works. But grace from God is UNMERITED therefore it can not be earned.
Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. Noah’s faith in the coming Redeemer of mankind opened the door of grace through faith which means Noah was saved by faith just like Adam and Eve. In fact some indicate that Eve thought Cain was the man from the LORD that He promised, she realized later that she was mistaken about the WHO but not the WHAT; a SAVIOR. She and Adam had faith in God and his promise to send a deliverer and THAT was counted to them for righteousness, just like Noah, Abraham and all the OT saints.
“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:15
This is why Job said in faith: “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:” Job 19:25 and Abraham was waiting for a heavenly city not just an earthly blessing.
“For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” Hebrews 11:10

“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.” Hebrews 11:13-16

And Moses did not know His name yet however he still put his faith in Christ the coming redeemer of all mankind.

“By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.” Hebrews 11:24-26

The reward spoken of above is not everlasting life, he already had that by believing in the coming Redeemer, the reward speaks of that which he would receive one day for his good works in choosing to suffer affliction with the people of God instead of living on easy street as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter.

“Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.” Matthew 5:11-12

Salvation has always been and will always be by grace through faith and never of works so that no one can say they have earned the FREE GIFT.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

“Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.”  Romans 3:27

No person will ever be able to say that they earned everlasting life (heaven). Therefore, God gets all the glory which only He deserves!

Romans 10:9-10, 13

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. … For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”  Romans 10:9-10, 13

Any person can call on God and if God so chooses to answer an unsaved person, it will be to send them the gospel so they can believe on the Lord first to be saved and after the person is a believer he can call upon the Lord in Jesus name for healing, deliverance etc.

“And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God. Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee. Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.” Acts 10:30-33

Calling on God didn’t save Cornelius with the sense of ETERNAL salvation.
However God did send him the gospel message and AFTER Cornelius BELIEVED on the Lord Jesus Christ for eternal salvation, he was saved. Cornelius didn’t ASK God to save him from eternal damnation, as soon as he believed he was immediately born again and then could call on the Lord and be confident in being heard for any petition.

“To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever BELIEVETH in him shall receive remission of sins. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?” Acts 10:43-47

Cornelius heard, believed and was instantly saved from eternal damnation right then, so there was no need to call upon the Lord for forgiveness of sins and everlasting life.

If you go through the New Testament you will see that the word for “saved” and it’s meaning can be determined by it’s context. Saved can mean physical healing, deliverance from demonic powers, healing of mind and body, being made whole and physical protection from the perils of persecution like Paul was delivered. In order to understand what kind of salvation is being referred to in Romans 10:13, we have to see the context. The context is referring to a believer calling on the Lord for deliverance, protection, etc. It can NOT mean eternal life in that verse because Scripture doesn’t contradict itself. And we know that ONLY believing on the Lord Jesus Christ brings forgiveness of sins and everlasting life.

I used to think that Romans 10:9-13 referred to eternal salvation but now I realize that there is another kind of salvation being referred to because Scripture teaches there is only one way to be saved which is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, period.

That Your Love May Abound In Knowledge And In All Judgment

And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; Philippians 1:9-10

People read that your love may abound yet more and more & the brain shuts off. It says that your love may about yet more and more in KNOWLEDGE and in all JUDGMENT; that ye may APPROVE things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ.

Love is only part of our responsibility as believers we need to abound in knowledge of the word of God and in all judgment that we may approve things that are excellent implying that there are things that are NOT excellent that we are expected to DISAPPROVE of them.

Why? So that we may be sincere and WITHOUT offence till the day of Christ. Without offence to GOD not without offence to the world. We become offensive to the Lord when we don’t apply ourselves to get knowledge in the Word and things of God. “The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.” Proverbs 18:15

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. (Proverbs 4:7)

Wisdom, knowledge and understanding work together. “I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.” (Proverbs 8:12)

We are to be on the alert always testing everything, even things that come from us, whether they are of God. The moment we think we CAN’T be deceived is that moment that we lay ourselves open to deception. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” (Hosea 4:6)
